Once a domain name is registered, who is the legal registrant of the domain name?
When a domain name is registered, the "registrant" contracts the use of the domain name. However, there is no permanent registrant for any domain name. The "registrant" of a domain name is the original contact listed at the time of registration, even if the information is changed at any time. In other words, the contact of a domain is the individual whose name and information is initially provided with the username and password for the domain name. If the Contact information is changed after the registration, the most recent Contact information entered is what is displayed in the WHOIS record. However, if the information has been changed it may not display the actual registrant of the domain name. Back to Top
