What is a domain name?
A domain name is a unique alpha-numeric name that identifies a particular
server on the Internet. A domain name will allow a user to type in a url,
such as findme.com, to identify the numeric address (i.e. 219.37.23.483.)
The purpose of a domain name is to let the user connect to the Internet
to find a web site or send email to addresses with these names like findme.com
and not have to memorize the numerical address that actually is the server.

Once a domain name is registered,
who is the legal registrant of the domain name? When a domain
name is registered, the "registrant" contracts the use of the domain name.
However, there is no permanent registrant for any domain name. The
"registrant" of a domain name is the original contact listed at the time
of registration, even if the information is changed at any time. In other
words, the contact of a domain is the individual whose name and
information is initially provided with the username and password for the
domain name. If the Contact information is changed after the registration,
the most recent Contact information entered is what is displayed in the
WHOIS record. However, if the information has been changed it may not
display the actual registrant of the domain name. Back
